ICE seat of the future
Individual project
The project provides greater comfort and more space for users to move through the redesign of the ICE seat. At the same time, taking into account the complexity of the current ticketing and the passenger experience, the ticketing method was redesigned by making full use of digitalization.

Problem
In order to make the trains more energy efficient, the width of the trains on ICE 4 is being reduced. Both the width of the aisles and the width of the seats have been reduced. In the future, ICE 4 trains will be used on a large scale.
This dimensional change significantly reduces passenger comfort while maintaining the original seat shape. The question is how to provide a better passenger experience and increase comfort without changing the size of the carriages?

A:Length of seat
ICE 1: 920mm; ICE2: 925mm
ICE3: 856mm; ICE4: 856mm
B:Width of seat
ICE 1: 465mm; ICE2: 455mm
ICE3: 460mm; ICE4: 460mm
D:Width of aisle
ICE 1: 568mm; ICE2: 586mm
ICE3: 530mm; ICE4: 509mm
C:Width of handrail
ICE 1 / ICE2 /ICE3 / ICE4: 55mm
my design
To create more space for passengers, the original bulky seats were redesigned as follows, and the armrests were redesigned to give passengers more room to move around.

UX problem
Another situation concerns the user experience of passengers on the train, where the ICE still uses artificial ticketing methods that can cause some disruption for passengers. It also increases the workload of the staff.
In addition, many seats are reserved for a specific route, which makes it somewhat difficult for passengers to find their seats. Of course, there are also cases where passengers have overstayed their seats.

Interface Design
To improve the user experience and make the ride more natural and comfortable.
Here, the ticketing system and the information messages during the ride are optimized.

Technology
The fiberglass penetrates the seams of the fabric. Creates a slight feedback to human handling. One can directly interaction with the web seat.

Reminders on the handrail
Lights on the seat armrests reflect the passenger's ride status:
The blue light : normal condition on.
The orange light : has passed through the station.
